This KPI allow institutions to compare buildings of similar construction type but with different footprints (size), to each other and find savings opportunities. At an organization level, this KPI lets an institution compare their entire building portfolio’s consumption to other building portfolios. Cost/SF data is also key in getting an Energy Star rating for anything over 5,000 SF.
Sum bill amount for bill dates in the most recent fiscal year, divided by square footage, per building. Then average all building cost/sf to get an institution average. Only looking at bill amounts that are associated with a building that has square footage >=1.
