Great to read a recent profile of Laura Joan “Jo” Welter in Tech & Learning magazine. Jo is the Assistant Superintendent at Hampton Township School District (Allison Park, PA) and has helped to make this high-performing district an ed-tech model.
A unique best practice at Hampton Township are four bi-annual technology expositions that let the community see how the district uses technology in its schools. According to Tech & Learning, "More than 800 guests attended the last expo (T4), which had more than 60 exhibits presented by teachers and students. Welter shares, “The majority of the exhibits were interactive, as students encouraged parents and community members to engage and experience technology firsthand.”
The information sharing and building community support contributed to the school board voting to raise taxes in order to fund an additional $100,000 toward technology needs, including ensuring all teachers have laptops in their classrooms.
