Schools See Even Bigger Efficiency Improvements with iPad
Abilene Christian University joined us at SchoolDude University this year. We were fortunate enough to have them present a class on their success with using iPads for work order management.
Kristian Allen, who lead the class and is the Director of Facilities Management at ACU, said that their maintenance staff adapted fairly quickly to the new technology. The staff was given the school issued iPads just before Christmas Break and by the time they returned to campus, everyone was using them.
Every one of the maintenance staff members is currently using an iPad for their daily work tasks, not just the supervisors. The benefit of the program has been the time-saving efficiency increases, not to mention the higher level of accuracy that working on such devices provides.
Being enabled with an iPad means that the maintenance team is more equipped to handle work orders. They can open up a work order in SchoolDude or create a new one while at the site of the problem. This not only saves them a step in the process, it also ensures accuracy. SchoolDude's work order system supports the upload of documents such as PDFs and photos, so things like building maps or actual photographs of the problem can be uploaded and attached to the work order.
This means that the maintenance team can always be prepared with the right tools to solve an issue, without extra trips back to the plant. It also means that they can close out an open work order as soon as the work is complete and before they move onto their next job. Efficiency is increased, not to mention accuracy in reporting.
Guilford College, in North Carolina is also using iPads for work order management. You can learn how managing their work orders in real-time has helped Guilford College eliminate paperwork and reduce their response time by using iPads.
