In the news recently is a Texas "campus-carry" bill that would make Texas the 8th state where it would be legal to carry concealed weapons on public college campuses.
Campus Safety magazine recently surveyed campus security professionals on how they feel about campus concealed carry legislation. The survey revealed that nearly three out of four (73%) of those who manage the response to gun violence on U.S. college campuses are opposed to students carrying concealed guns. Also, more than half of this group are opposed to school personnel carrying concealed weapons on campus.
Gun control is a polarizing topic. Regardless of political affiliation or gun control beliefs, we can all agree that it has never been more important to ensure college campuses are prepared for a violent situation – and that includes a comprehensive and effective plan for notifying students, faculty and administrators and informing them of what they should do, e.g., shelter in place, evacuate, etc.
Whether the issue is gun violence, bullying, a bomb threat or some other type of intruder, CrisisManager and other mobile safety platforms help campus administration and campus police to quickly notify the community of an issue and provide resources for what to do. During any emergency situation, time is critical.
