Every now and then you hear an amazing survival story and you can’t help but wonder how did these heroes find the courage to push through and would you have it in you to overcome a similar situation? We invited one of those heroes, Aron Ralston, SchoolDude University 2014 keynote speaker to share how he found meaning in despair after surviving a hike where he accidentally dislodged a boulder that crushed and pinned his right hand. During our informal Q&A session, Aron candidly answered several questions about his recovery, inspiration, and what it was like being approached about having a movie made about his story.
Aron will share his full story at SchoolDude University 2014 in Myrtle Beach, SC on Sunday, April 6. He hopes his motivational speech will be a metaphor for the audience. It can be as easy as coming in with the top two things they’re worried about at work or at home right now. It’s his hope there’s something in his message that will offer a revelatory moment to help them with one of the “boulders” they’re challenged with in work or at home and to give them the strength to overcome that challenge.
“Smile from the gift that comes from removing your ‘boulders’ and find triumph in tragedy.”

When asked what message or advice Aron had for students, he focused on accountability. He encourages students to be accountable for the choices they make and find the power to move forward when faced with the consequence of a perhaps not-so-good choice. “Establish a corner square that builds your character strength – problem solving, perseverance, resilience. The end point of an education process is developing people to have the skills that will lead to greater success in life,” said Aron.
