School buildings are the hub of the community. The buildings you are tasked with maintaining play host to an incredible number of events from basketball games and girl scout meetings to bake sales and even the community carnival. Do you know how many events you're hosting each year?
We recently updated our
Cost Recovery Whitepaper to examine 10 years of data from more than 1,700 educational institutions. The numbers the data revealed were staggering... take a look for yourself! The chart below breaks down the number of events hosted based on number of students.
I am constantly surprised at how much schools accomplish in a year and the findings in this paper make your jobs even more impressive. How many events is your school hosting? Do you fall above the average for schools your size?
Too many schools overlook the financial impact all of these events have on the facilities. Kids are hard enough on your buildings during the school day, let alone the craziness that happens after-hours. Taking into consideration personnel costs, utility expenses, supplies used, and general wear and tear, the data shows that schools incur $70 in costs for every event. This is where cost recovery enters into the facility scheduling conversation.
