FSDirect - Can't Remove a Date, Must Cancel the Date Instead
Thanks for your idea. I have opened the post up for voting!
The reason that cancelled events show with an "x" on the calendar is to preserve the integrity of the data that was originally entered on a schedule. That way if a requester enters a schedule with several dates and some are cancelled by an administrator, they can see that directly on the calendar. If the event is removed completely, they may think they just forgot to add it which can cause some confusion.
I hope this helps!
On many occasions I have had people submit an event schedule with multiple dates, but then we end up needing to remove one or more of the dates. Unfortunately, we cannot completely remove those dates...we have to cancel them and still have them appear in the Event Calendar view (with an icon indicating that it was canceled).
If you click on the event in the Event Calendar, then click on "View Event Schedule" to get to the detailed view of the entire request, then scroll down to the "Events" list. If you have canceled one of the event dates, the word "Canceled" will appear in the right column. We could have a column that would enable us to delete a date and have it remove that date completely. This could be something that only administrators are allowed to do. It would be like the "Delete" column that you already have in the "File Attachments" section. At the very least, we could have a column that enables us to cancel any dates from that view. That alone would save time rather than having to go into each individual date and cancel from there. I know that each individual date's first screen has the option to cancel event from that date forward or cancel the entire schedule, but that hasn't been applicable in any of my situations so far. If I wanted to cancel an entire schedule, I would go to the Event Schedule view and change the status to "Canceled" instead. That will remove everything from the event calendar view.
I probably wouldn't have so much of a problem with only being able to cancel an event if there was a way to filter them out of the event calendar view. This also applies to the "Print This!" feature - there is no option to filter out canceled events.
