When MaintenanceDirect was developed, we found that ease of implementation was an important factor in a CMMS for schools. We also found that room level reporting for maintenance issues was not a priority for most schools. That's the thought process behind having an open text field for Area/Room Number on the work order form.
Managing events is another story...in order to prevent conflicts and have additional options in approval routing, hard coding rooms is a prerequisite.
This is an interesting idea and I look forward to hearing more feedback from your peers. I can understand why you'd want the room data from the schedule form to pull over to the work order form.
We'd have to consider how client's that don't own FSDirect would setup and use the area/room field on the work order form.
