National Business Officers Association

2006 Recipient of the NBOA Kenneth A. White, Jr. Distinguished Business Officer Award: Robert Mueller It is with great pleasure that we announce the 2006 Recipient of the Kenneth A. White, Jr. Distinguished Business Officer Award: Robert Mueller from Delaware Valley Friends School.

From Bill Hodgetts nominating letter:
Bob burst onto the scene with a rugged and ragged intensity that has softened over the years. He is clearly a person who feels deeply about his positions and is comfortable sharing them on both a local and national level. I think he embodies many of the characteristics that the Ken White Award was established for and I am pleased to be able to recommend him for this prestigious distinction.

Ken Whites vision of a national business officers association was solidly based in the advantages of a very strong regional group. He understood that many schools, typically smaller ones, would never be able to take advantage of a national group. There would always be significant benefits to a regional group that would never be available on a national level. I believe Bob has been instrumental in organizing one of the strongest regional groups in the country. The variety of services they provide are, I believe, without comparison. From my perspective, PAISBOA is one of the best examples of collective purchasing, negotiation and group dynamics in the country. This group is open to schools of all sizes and must be of tremendous assistance to the members who would otherwise not be able to achieve the efficiencies of a larger group.

Bob has used his experiences from this group and his school to become, in my opinion, the voice of the small school. He brings this perspective to NBOA and, most recently, to the listserv. While his perspective is often applicable to schools of all sizes, it is particularly helpful to smaller schools that must continually react to the many demands on the business office without the resources of the larger schools. Bob is thoughtful, articulate and insightful with his comments and analyses. He understands the value of a national perspective for business officers and has contributed significantly to "the movement".
