CEO and Founder

Kent was the Founder and CEO of Applied Computer Technologies (ACT), which dominated the CMMS education market with the ACT 1000 System from the mid-1980's until the late 1990's. After ACT was acquired by CP&L, he became the CEO of Strategic Resource Solutions (SRS), which specialized in energy conservation and facility management and was the wholly owned, non-regulated subsidiary of Carolina Power and Light - now Progress Energy, a Fortune 250 company. Kent went on to become the CEO and President of Indus International, which was the largest maintenance management and enterprise asset management software company in the world at that time.

Along with Lee Prevost, Kent saw the opportunity to revolutionize educational system operations, facility and maintenance management, and IT operations by using the power of the Internet. Together, they founded SchoolDude in 1999 and started the journey of providing educational administrators with powerful and innovative solutions for facility and maintenance management, IT management and a wide range of business processes.

Education

Kent graduated with honors in 1975 from North Carolina State University with degrees in both Chemical Engineering and Pulp and Paper Science and Technology. He continued his education at the University of North Carolina in Wilmington by taking a wide range of business courses, while working as an engineer. As he moved into the software business and into management, he has remained dedicated to lifelong learning through on-going study, seminars and professional development programs.

Personal

Kent has three wonderful kids, as well as a very special granddaughter, and loves spending time with family and friends. He loves working at SchoolDude because it maintains a balance between employees, clients and business, and also because he gets to work with many of his best friends each day.

Interests

Kent enjoys family, golf, boating, travel and renovating the family farm. After a work week of next-generation, on-demand applications, he enjoys manual labor on the farm, creating a good balance between technology of the future and roots of the past. Kent is also a private pilot with more than 5,000 hours in command, but now he prefers boating the Intracoastal Waterway. Kent loves to travel both domestically and internationally, especially as a means of better understanding history and people. People and places have great things to teach us, but only if we listen and find it.
