The Dude
Some of you have asked us who "The Dude" actually is. Is it the CEO? Is it the guy who modeled for our icon? Is it one of the founders' dads? There's quite a bit of speculation on this perplexing issue. To quell the swell, we'll try and explain exactly who The Dude is.
He started as an idea: the novel notion that once upon a time, an educational operations professional needed information and technology resources that weren't readily available. To find them, the professional asked peers, searched the Internet, talked to experts, researched technology, and took some downtime to think about the solution to a problem - just like any good school, college or university operations professional would.
The Dude is still VERY young - in fact, he was born March 1, 2000. But he's quickly growing up! The Dude is not our dad. But the Dude could be you - or your dad - or your mentor in technology, facility or business operations management. The Dude could be your state organization's leader, or a co-worker or peer operations professional.
So, who is the Dude? SchoolDude could be anyone and is everyone. In our thinking, the Dude is not any single individual (although there were plenty of role models, for sure).
Riddle solved: The Dude is actually the collective knowledge embodied in you, our SchoolDude clients! Clients are more than just dudes or dudettes - our clients are part of the SchoolDude team, and The Dude is your mascot - a symbol of the collection of experience and knowledge you have gained in educational operations. A symbol of sharing that knowledge with those who will follow you. The symbol of keeping the faith, staying the course, and never, never quitting.
YOU make the SchoolDude team the success that it is; we the staff at SchoolDude.com are simply here to serve you.
Our pleasure. Enjoy!

One thing, just one thing. You stick to that and everything else don't mean noth'n.'"Let me elaborate: In the movie, "City Slickers", city slicker Mitch Robins (Billy Crystal) and tough trail boss Curly (Jack Palance) get to know each other while driving strays back to the herd. Curly shares his philosophy with Mitch, noting that city slickers spend 50 weeks a year getting knots in their rope and think 2 weeks of playing cowboy will untie them. The conversation continues something like this:
Curly: Do you know what the secret to life is?
Mitch: No, what? Curly: This (holds up one finger).
Mitch: Your finger?
Curly: One thing, just one thing. You stick to that and everything else don't mean noth'n'.
Mitch: That's great, but what's the one thing?
Curly: That's what you got to figure out. We've applied this philosophy at SchoolDude by focusing on one thing: solving educational operations challenges.

Loves to fly fish and spend time outdoors with his family in the Western North Carolina mountains near his hometown of Waynesville, NC. Enjoys travel, flying (he's a washed up private pilot that has lapsed), and plays golf a few times a year whether he needs to or not.-
